Surgical Technologists assist in operations under the supervision of doctors, nurses, or other surgical personnel. Surgical technologists help make surgery safe and sterile. As a member of the healthcare team, they assist with many aspects of surgery and are an important member of the medical team. They may help set up operating rooms, adjust lights and equipment, prepare patients for surgery. They pass the surgeon the tools and supplies they need to perform the surgery, making sure everything stays sterile. They help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. They make sure the surgery area stays clean and free from germs to help prevent any infection from happening during or after the surgery. Surgical Technology is a growing field, and this highly-skilled role requires completion of an associate’s degree and certification.
