Kate James brings over 14 years of experience in marketing, relationship building, and storytelling as a former non-profit founder and executive director. In previous roles, Kate served as a partnership marketing manager with a major airline and a project manager for a mission-driven consulting company. She has also been an educator, working with individuals in under-resourced communities domestically and internationally.
A graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a degree in Photojournalism, Kate started her career as a freelance photographer before founding Picture Change in 2011. As Executive Director, she led the nonprofit’s mission to equip young people with the skills to shift from being subjects of humanitarian photography to storytellers of their own lives. The organization’s unique approach allowed students to reclaim authorship of their narratives through photography and digital storytelling. Although Picture Change closed in 2021 due to the Pandemic, its impact continues, with many former students now thriving as professional photographers.
Kate is based in Atlanta, Georgia and is a proud wife to Andrew, mom to Harper, and dog-mom to Scout. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, experimenting in the kitchen, and is currently putting the final touches on her debut novel. She is a firm believer in “no wasted experiences,” and strives to be a catalyst for good with curiosity, empathy, passion, and scrappiness.
