Educators Can Support More Paths

There’s no one-size-fits-all model for learning. So why should every student follow the same path to career success?

Educators Can Support More Paths

Apprenticeship Supports Engagement, Exploration

For too long, we’ve told students the only way to succeed is to go to college right after high school. And while that works for some, most people learn differently. They have different strengths, different goals, and different definitions of success. We need to give them more paths to their own definitions of success.

Apprenticeship offers students a chance to explore careers, earn credentials, build real-world skills, and get paid–all while staying on track for whatever comes next, whether that’s a job, a degree, or both.

Teacher Degree Apprenticeship in Action

“As a student, having someone that looks like you and speaks your language not only make school a safe space, but also makes it a place you want to go to everyday.”

Sergio De La Rosa | Fort Morgan School District

It’s About More Paths to Careers

The false binary–college or nothing–limits students. Apprenticeship expands their options. Because apprenticeship doesn’t replace college–it makes the path to and through college to career clearer, more intentional, and more affordable.

 What students gain:

  • 65% of apprentices say the program helped them decide whether to attend college
  • 61% of apprentices say the program helped them decide what to study in college
  • 73% of apprentice say the program helped them decide what career to pursue

Post-Program Outcomes

Incorporating apprenticeship doesn’t push students away from post secondary education, but instead, offers students experience that informs and supports their future education and career paths.

73%

Alumni report their postsecondary program is related to their apprenticeship

80%

Completing apprentices have documented positive outcomes: employment, postsecondary education, or both

100%

CO and Elkhart program alumni found a job and/or enrolled in postsecondary education in the same year as program completion

Become an Apprentice-Ready School

CareerWise offers a framework for schools to prepare students to successfully connect with apprenticeships during or after high school.

Apprentice-Ready Schools:

  • Leverage Career and Technical Education (CTE) aligned to industry-recognized credentials and college courses to provide related technical instruction for apprenticeships
  • Enable flexible course schedules allowing students to work on-site during the school day while staying on track to graduate
  • Offer career exploration and work-based learning experiences in grades 6-12, requiring each student to gain acceptance into college and/or a career training program before graduation
  • Partner with workforce boards and industry groups to provide career exploration, counseling, and navigation
  • Utilize a unified recruitment and application process that streamlines connections between students, employers, and training providers.

    Explore the Education-to-Career Continuum

Not every school is ready for full-scale registered apprenticeship–and that’s okay. CareerWise supports partners—no matter where they are starting—across a full continuum of career-connected learning, from early career exposure and internships to pre-apprenticeships, youth apprenticeships, and apprenticeship degrees.

    • Early career exposure: Introduce students to career pathways through hands-on experiences
    • Internships: Short-term work experiences that build foundational skills
    • Pre-Apprenticeships: Structured programs that prepare students for registered apprenticeships
    • Youth Apprenticeships: Earn-and-learn-models combining paid work, mentorship, and classroom instruction
    • Apprenticeship Degrees: Integration with postsecondary programs for seamless pathways to credentials and careers
