Apprenticeship at Scale

Since launching its inaugural cohort in 2019, CareerWise New York has opened apprenticeship opportunities for over 900 students and currently works with 70 schools and 21 companies across the city.
As a member of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) program in partnership with NYC Public Schools and the New York Jobs CEO Council, CareerWise New York is transforming how students transition from education to careers in one of the world’s most dynamic economies.

The Program

CareerWise New York offers a 2+ year youth apprenticeship connecting high school students with leading NYC employers. Students earn wages while gaining applied learning, real-world skills, and industry-recognized credentials in growing fields like IT, healthcare, financial services, and business ops—while helping employers build talent pipelines.

To ensure both students and employers succeed, CareerWise New York provides comprehensive support throughout the apprenticeship journey including training for supervisors, coaching for apprentices, and ongoing program management to keep everyone aligned and on track.

Apprentice Occupations:

CareerWise New York collaborates with industry leaders across finances, healthcare, technology, and business operations to develop in-demand apprenticeship pathways aligned with employer needs to ensure mutual value for businesses and students alike. From Fortune 500 companies to city agencies, New York apprentices are building careers in industries that drive the city’s economy and will continue to grow for decades to come.

Advanced Manufacturing occupations

Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments.

Assist engineers in designing, developing, and testing mechanical devices and industrial machinery.

Business Operations occupations

Plan and coordinate the operations of organizations to ensure efficiency.

Create visual concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers.

Recruit, screen, and interview applicants. Handle employee relations and benefits. Maintain personnel records and provide clerical support for the HR department.

Coordinate marketing materials, social media, and PR activities to maintain a favorable public image.

Plan, initiate, and manage information technology (IT) projects and guide the work of technical staff.

Support sales teams by managing leads, coordinating contracts, and maintaining client data.

Maintain financial records, process payments/receivables, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Entrepreneurship occupations

General management role involving the coordination of production, sales, or distribution of products/services.

Financial Services occupations

Process insurance claims and record new insurance policies.

Evaluate and authorize approval of commercial or credit loans.

Perform customer service and administrative duties for banks or financial institutions.

Evaluate insurance applications to decide whether to provide insurance and under what terms.

Handle customer financial transactions and provide advice on banking products and services.

Manage financial operations and revenue strategies to ensure organizational profitability.

Healthcare occupations

Provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff.

Provide basic patient care (monitoring health, feeding, bathing) under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

For a Culinary track, this focuses on food service management and costing.

Provide basic nursing care for sick or injured patients in hospitals or long-term care facilities.

Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician.

Operate X-ray and MRI equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

Assist in surgical operations by preparing the OR, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.

Hospitality occupations

Direct the preparation and cooking of food and manage kitchen staff under an Executive Chef.

Information Technology (IT) occupations

Use mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze data and develop insights for business intelligence.

Schedule and dispatch workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles for conveyance of materials or freight.

Write, test, and maintain the code and scripts that allow computer applications to run.

Test software or products to ensure they meet quality standards and identify defects.

Maintenance Technology occupations

Plan, direct, and coordinate the operations and maintenance of buildings and facilities.

Perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines and buildings in repair.

Real Estate Management occupations

Manage the operations of income-producing residential properties (apartments, condos).
